The 2009 has very good colour. The complex aroma shows blackberry, violet black plum and briar. The palate is fluid and mouth filling with fine gentle tannins that gives the wine fibre from mid pallet through to a long and persistent finish. The flavours are a rich and slightly chocolaty mix of blackberry, black plum, barrel char and briar. This is a cohesive and concentrated wine that is showing only the beginnings of the potential that will unfold with time.
The 2009 Hawkshead Bannockburn Pinot was made by hand in small open tanks, without the addition of yeast, very little intervention but constant and diligent attention. 17% of the fruit was added as whole bunch.
The wine was aged in French oak barrels (1/3 new). After 12 months in barrel the wine was racked clean into a small tank and allowed to settle through the cold winter months.
